Grading - 6th Grade & 7th/8th

Grade Policy for Science Fair Project

6th Grade - Two separate grades (7th & 8th see below)

(1) Each assignment through the final project will be worth one quiz grade=100 points.

ALL assignments must be turned in on time: full credit

1 day late: minus 20 points

2 days late: minus 30 points

                     3 days late: 0 points

PROJECT DUE DATES ARE FIRM, EVEN FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE ABSENT

If you are sick or absent on the day the assignment is due, you must still turn it in.  You may e-mail to your teacher, take a photo of it and text it to your teacher, or have someone else bring it in.  Absence from school does not dismiss you from turning in the work, since all these dates are signed in advance.  If the dates change, you will be notified in class.

(2) The Final Project is the Backboard and Class presentation (50/50) = 100 points

A. The Board will be graded for neatness and inclusion of all elements, including ring binder and experimental notebook (50 points)

B. The student will give an oral presentation of his/her project in class (dates will be assigned).  The student may have note cards, but may not read from the notes.  This is the student's work, so he/she should be able to discuss the rationale for the project, how he/she came up with the idea, how he/she carried out the research/experiment, what was discovered, conclusions made from the findings, and application of what was discovered.
