Backboard and Oral Presentation Assignment

Oral Presentation of Project in class

What to say when you present:  (and RELAX -- you know this!)

  •  Introduce yourself and tell your audience how you became interested in the topic

  •  Review Research Information from your paper

  • State the problem

  • State your hypothesis

  • Describe the design of your experiment (the variables, control(s) and constants)

  • Describe the steps of your procedure

  • Describe your results and conclusion (make sure to highlight any interesting findings)

Keep in mind you are also being graded on:

  • Vocal qualities such as rate, volume, articulation, and enthusiasm

  • Body language such as eye contact, posture, and body movement.

  • Length of Presentation:  within the 3-5 minute time frame.

Tips for Presenting:

  • Use index cards to help guide you through what you are saying next when you present

  • Practice presenting at home in front of siblings or parents to get comfortable with what you are saying and to ensure you are within the time frame

  • After every 2 sentences make eye contact with the audience

  • Speak slowly. If you think you are going too slow, you are probably not - give everyone time to process what you are saying. Make sure to take the time to speak clearly so that everyone can understand you.

  • Have fun with your presentation!! You have been working on this project for months and now you get to tell everyone about!

  • YOU are the expert on your project so please do NOT read the backboard to your audience, summarize each part of the project, and smile!
